Volunteer Beach Rescue Service

Stanswood Beach Rescue

Stanswood was founded in 1967 at Lepe beach with an old army ambulance, two canoes and a rescue line in the back.

When the coastguard moved from Lepe in 1971 to Calshot, Southampton RLSS UK Lifesaving Club as it was known then also was asked to move to Calshot.

In early 1984 the first beach rescue building was constructed and the unit was then know as Stanswood Rescue.

In 1994 the new building was erected which we know today.

The service continued as a beach rescue service until 5 years ago when the last of the founder members retired.

Since then the unit has been undergoing changes. We have a new team at the helm who have many years experience in lifesaving, lifeguarding, lifeboats and search & rescue. The team are not only passionate about saving lives, through community interaction, we are building upon and training the next generation of lifesavers and lifeguards to keep the public safe on and near water and in their own communities.
